All People’s Congress (APC) Party’s 2023 Presidential Candidate, Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara has outlined his vision for the country as the nation looks toward the 2028 general elections.
In a recent online interview, Dr. Kamara emphasised that his focus remains on Sierra Leone’s development rather than personal political ambitions.
He stated categorically that he does not intend to run in the 2028 elections and has yet to decide on contesting the APC flagbearer position in 2026.
Reflecting on his career as both a civil servant and politician, Dr. Kamara expressed pride in his contributions under various governments.
He praised former President Dr. Ahmed Tejan Kabbah for his transformative reforms, which laid the foundation for institutions like the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), NASSIT, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the National Public Procurement Authority (NPPA), and the Foreign Affairs services.
Dr. Kamara credited his rise as the APC’s 2023 presidential candidate to divine intervention, facilitated by former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma. While acknowledging the challenges faced during his political journey, he called on APC members to prioritise resolving lingering issues from the 2023 elections before focusing on the 2028 polls.
“The success of 2028 depends on addressing the electoral flaws of 2023,” Dr. Kamara warned, emphasising the need for electoral justice.
He urged the APC to unite in tackling unresolved issues to safeguard Sierra Leone’s democracy and ensure a fair electoral process in the future.
Dr. Kamara also highlighted the importance of the Tripartite Committee’s work in fostering unity within the party and advancing collaborative initiatives. While he reassured members of his continued involvement in party activities, he stressed the need for perseverance and determination in Sierra Leone’s ongoing political battle.
Dr. Kamara reiterated that the APC’s performance in resolving the controversies surrounding the 2023 elections would shape the nation’s democratic trajectory and political landscape leading up to 2028.
